Facebook’s Fight Against Spammers
Facebook has been awarded $711 million for damages got due to an anti-spam case. It was filed against online marketer Sanford Wallace.
According to the Palo Alto Company announced that Wallace and his two associates signed up on Facebook in November last year in order to initiate and develop a spam scheme.
Court documents show that Wallace sent many Facebook users a link to a Web site. And the spammers would try again the cycle by sinning up for new accounts and continue sending messages.
Facebook made it known that there were 14 million violations of the Can-Span. Wallace violated the law not considering and respecting the rights of the network and its subscribers.
However, Facebook’s claim for $7.5 billion to cover the damages was rejected.
In November, Facebook won $873 million case in the fight against a Canadian resident, who was found guilty with sending over 4 million vicious messages.
MySpace won a $234 million case against Wallace and Walter Rines in 2008. .
As Sam O’Rourke, the company’s associate general counsel, said in a Facebook message, they do not wait for a big award, but this is the contribution into the general fight against criminals and somehow makes it work a bit slower.
