Google’s Onebox Service
Google joins the online music market releasing a new service for searching and purchasing online.
Onebox represents a union with such websites as Lala and MySpace’s ilike.
The service available only for the US residents, enables users to search by song titles, artists.
According to Mark Mulligan, an analyst at research firm Forrester, it provides a better alternative for illegal file-sharing.
Searching with OneBox there will appear a pop up widget suggesting to play the entire song.
A MySpace box gives you a chance to purchase MP3s of the tracks and provide music videos and other data, for instance upcoming concerts.
Google claims that music and lyrics belong to the most popular search items. Thus, the company acknowledges the important role of music in users’ life.
As it is known, the world’s leader on music market is Apple, which has about 70% of sales all over the world.
Firms like Spotify start to become popular in Europe. Thus, the free service offering music-streaming came out in 2008. Today it has over 2 million consumers in the UK and over 6 million around Europe.
The new cooperation is expected to surpass this success.
There are already free downloads of music available in China. Now the company is seeking for partners in other countries.
