Google Releases Navigation Service For Phones
On Wednesday Google released a free navigation system for mobile phones with turn-by-turn directions.
Google’s success is likely to undermine sales of GPS navigation devices offered by Garmin and TomTom as well as services provided by cellphone carriers, analysts predict.
Google is known for spreading enmity in different sectors launching products and services competing with other brands.
However, as Eric E. Schmidt, Google’s chief executive, explained at the briefing with reporters that took place yesterday, the company did not mean to undermine the industry. He claimed that it was aimed at meeting consumers’ needs and that was possible thanks to the growing power of smartphones and the spreading of Internet access.
What the company likes about the new service is that it is free as the customer likes it too.
The service will become obtainable as incorporated in the latest version of Google Maps for Mobile.
Google hopes that the new Google Maps with navigation service will become accessible in future on Apple’s iPhone and other devices as well. But, as the company’s officials mention, the decision will depend on the companies producing the devices.
Google executives claim that their navigation service is better in comparison to other competing systems as it has a constant Internet access.
