I&B ministry ban FTV for 10 days
On Thursday, the government smacked a 10-day ban on the Fashion Television (FTV) for showing the visuals of topless ladies.
The ban will begin from Friday evening and will continue till March 21.
The I&B ministry’s has raged on the channel due to the showcase of topless women in a presentation of the fashion designer Alexander McQueen’s collection in Barcelona held in 2001. The show had been on air on September 4, 2009. Explaining that the show degraded women and the visuals were not acceptable for kids and unrestricted public exhibition, the ministry ordered the ban for violating the Cable Television Network (Regulations) Act.
This is the second time when FTV has been forbidden. The ministry had earlier seized the transmission of the channel for a couple of months between May-June 2007 on basis of telecasting the programs like ‘Midnight Hot’ that showed skimpily-clad models.
