Junior foreign minister used the Twitter’s microblogging site in order to criticize new rules of the government. It compressed rules for long-term tourist visas.

Shashi Tharoor said that there was no logic in these new rules, as Mumbai attacks hijacked a boat and entered the city from Pakistan by sea and all of them did not have visas.

Because of the previous rules, people who had five- or 10-year visas had to leave India every 180 days. There were people who went to a neighboring country for a short period of time and then returned to the country.

Since November 4, they had to undergo the same process, but they had to leave the country for two months before they can re-enter

According to Vishnu Prakash, new rules were established to facilitate bonafide tourists and also immigration authorities were able to permit tourists who leave India to re-enter if they produced a “detailed itinerary” and ticket bookings.

Tharoor was convinced that the new visa rules would distance tourists and affect the economy of the country. But Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna said that such policy should not been discussed on the Internet.

“If there are any (negative) perceptions, then I think they should be sorted out within the four walls of the two ministries,” said Krishna, referring to the foreign and home ministries.
